Fallston Middle School (FMS) recently hosted its 6th Grade Orientation, giving families a comprehensive overview of what to expect as students transition from elementary to middle school. School leaders highlighted daily routines, academic expectations, safety measures, and opportunities in unified arts, extracurriculars, and athletics, all grounded in the school’s mission to build a supportive and inclusive learning community. Families also learned about “Cougar Camp,” a hands-on summer orientation designed to ease student anxiety and help them become familiar with schedules, lockers, and the school environment before the first day.
A key highlight of the presentation was an update to the middle school math sequence, aligning with upcoming Maryland state changes that will shift toward integrated algebra pathways. Using multiple data points such as assessment scores and course performance, FMS will place students in courses that best support their readiness while keeping future opportunities open. School leaders emphasized that success in math—and middle school overall—looks different for every student, encouraging families to focus on growth, communication, and building strong academic habits as students begin this next chapter.
