Youth’s Benefit Elementary School is gearing up for an exciting and literacy-filled March as students and staff celebrate National Reading Month with this year’s theme, “Reading Rocks!”
Throughout the month of March 2026, YBES will be buzzing with reading excitement as classrooms participate in engaging activities designed to inspire a lifelong love of books.
Spirit Days & Schoolwide Reading Fun
The celebration includes a variety of themed spirit days that encourage creativity and school pride. Students will kick things off on March 2 by dressing as a favorite Seuss character for Read Across America Day. Other themed days include Comfy Cozy Day, Dress Like a Rock Star Day, Lucky Readers Day (wear green), Wear a Word Wednesday, Book Character Day, and a Tropical Day to close out the month.
In addition, students will take part in several schoolwide D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) events. Whether reading with a friend, with a stuffed animal, in the dark with a flashlight, or even outside (weather permitting), students will have multiple opportunities to pause and immerse themselves in a good book.
New Books & Reading Surprises
Excitement will continue throughout the month with special reading surprises. A “rocking” new book will be revealed every few days in the Carson Reading Room, and every classroom will receive a new book for its library. Teachers will even have opportunities to win new biographies for their classrooms.
Students are also encouraged to “rock their reading” at home by participating in the At-Home Reading Challenge. Reading logs will be sent home in March, and students who return completed logs by April 10 will earn a special prize.
Special Author Visit
To cap off the celebration, YBES will welcome author Daryl Cobb for a special visit on April 10. Students will have the opportunity to hear from a published author, further inspiring their reading and writing journeys.
With spirit days, new books, reading challenges, and an author visit, it’s clear that at YBES, Reading truly Rocks!
